The Official State of Florida Welcome Centers were first opened in 1949 and operated by the State Road Department (now the Department of Transportation). The Welcome Centers were turned over to the Florida Development Commission (later the Department of Commerce) in 1955. Florida was among the first states to operate this type of hospitality/information program.
Today, there are three highway Welcome Centers and the Capitol Welcome Center. The Highway Welcome Centers are located at the following locations: I-75 (Jennings), I-10 (Pensacola), I-95 (Yulee). The Capitol Welcome Center is located on the Plaza Level of Florida's new Capitol. Overall, in the almost 65 years the Welcome Centers have been open, they have provided unparalleled hospitality, delicious citrus juice and accurate information to more than 91.5 million visitors to our beautiful state of Florida.
